Ham Radio Workbench is a podcast that provides bi-weekly discussion on topics of interest to the ham radio operator and anyone interested in hands-on DIY electronics, including developments in ham radio, and hardware and skills necessary to succeed as a radio operator. The Ham Radio Workbench bundle is comprised of components selected by the Ham Radio Workbench Podcast hosts as the portable workbench of choice for the amateur radio operator. It combines the Analog Discovery 2 with accessories that provide standard BNC connections, and the ability to easily grip surface mount components to create a portable work station that can assist in design and debugging of Ham Radio related projects and designs.

As George from the Ham Radio Workbench states: "Every ham radio workbench needs an oscilloscope, waveform generator, voltmeter, data logger, logic analyzer, and spectrum analyzer.  The Analog Discovery 2 includes all these and more in a compact USB connected device.  These features are essential for designing and debugging audio amplifiers, filters, logic control circuits, power supplies, etc.  The compact size makes it easy to take your workbench with you to the repeater site, DXpedition or the Field Day site."

  • BNC Adapter Board for the Analog Discovery
  • BNC Oscilloscope x1/x10 Probes (Pair)
  • Mini Grabber Test Clips (6-pack)
  • One extra 2x15 flywire signal cable assembly
  • Analog Discovery 2 and the following:
    • One regular sized project box (without sticker sheet)
    • One USB A to micro B programming cable
    • One 2x15 flywire signal cable assembly
    • One 5-pack of 6-pin male headers
    • One ferrite cable snap-on
  • Product Compliance:
    • HTC: 8471809000
    • ECCN: 3A992.a

Note: The Analog Discovery BNC adapter board does not have differential analog (scope) inputs.

    Analog Discovery 2

Posted by J. Sebald on 23rd Aug 2021

Works out of the box (Hardware/Linux Software). Very versatile and good performance. Unfortunately the differential Oscilloscope (very interesting!) inputs are common grounded when using the adapter board. Would be interesting and raise the potential of the system to open source the software/hardware.

    Spectrum Analyzer Review

Posted by Evan on 15th Aug 2019

Purchased to verify spectral purity for my amateur radio rigs. Works very well for wide spectrum (wide frequency range) looking for harmonics. Not so well for close in IMD type issues as the resolution bandwidth minimum is just under 2khz. Would need to go down to 100 hz to be effective. I would also state that the controls are not all complete: would like to be able to set frequency covered by both start and stop points (supplied) as well as center and span (not able to find how to do that). I have not used the other functions, as I already have a good test equipment for those. Was hoping that this would cover what I needed to avoid an $800+ purchase. Will not fill the spectrum analyzer bill for me. I gave it 4 stars because of the quality of what was provided. Dinged them one star for not listing the RBW in the specifications.

    Great for Learning

Posted by Brian on 8th Mar 2018

The Analog Discovery 2 Ham Radio Workbench Bundle, backed up with Digilent’s online resources and the Workbench Podcast combine to help a Ham like myself with basic electronics knowledge to expand my learning and grow in the hobby. The many features will make this an economical, flexible, and powerful tool for practical application on my workbench as I build and test radios. I particularly enjoy Digilent’s support in the area of education and efforts to build communities of individuals engaged in discovering new and innovative ways to use their products.

Great all in one tool for the workbench

Posted by Robert Skala on 7th Mar 2018

The Analog Discovery 2 is a handy tool for anyone that could use a scope, logic analyser, serial protocol analyser, spectrum analyzer and more in a small and affordable easy to use package. I can see this substituting for our $14k Agilent scope/analyzer for many projects, and the cost for it is less than the Agilent serial protocol analyser option alone. Thanks for a great product, I am very happy with the purchase.

    Filled in all the Gaps

Posted by Prosise on 7th Mar 2018

Being able to trace a signal thru a circuit has been impossible for me. I have not had access to an oscilloscope because of the cost. But with the Discover2 I have it all. I have had to dust off the cobwebs in the brain from days long ago. It has been many years since I used these tools regularly. I have ran several tests to verify the o-scope, signal generator, and Spec analyzer and extremely happy with the results.. Technology has come along way, and this setup really makes it easy to test equipment easily. I am still learning, and I recommend reading the manual a couple of times before you receive the test gear.. Kudos on the youtube videos, they are a real help.. I sincerely thank you for supporting the HamRadioWorkbench and appreciate the time Kaitlyn put forth as a guest on the podcast. It is a really good in depth overview of the AD2..
