The ZedBoard is a low-cost development board for the Xilinx Zynq-7000 all programmable SoC (APSoC), and a perfect option for those looking to buy a Xilinx FPGA board. Check out our blog post What is Zynq? for more information on Zynq FPGA technology. 

Take advantage of the Xilinx Zynq-7000 APSoCs tightly coupled ARM® processing system and 7-Series programmable logic to create unique and powerful designs with the ZedBoard. This ARM board contains everything necessary to create a Linux®, Android®, Windows®, or other OS/RTOS based design. Additionally, several expansion connectors expose the processing system and programmable logic I/Os for easy user access. 

Target applications for this Xilinx 7 series FPGA board include video processing, reconfigurable computing, motor control, software acceleration, Linux/Android/RTOS development, exploring RISC processors (ARM), and general Zynq-7000 AP SoC prototyping.

The ZedBoard is supported by Xilinx's Vivado Design Suite, including the free WebPACK version.

To create and modify designs for your ZedBoard, you can use Xilinx's Vivado Design Suite. Vivado is a software designed for the synthesis and analysis of HDL designs.

The Xilinx SDSoC Development environment provides a familiar embedded C/C++/OpenCL application development experience for heterogeneous Zynq® SoC deployment, and is a great option for video processing applications. A voucher for the SDSoC Development Environment is available as a bundle option. This voucher does not include access to the Vivado Design Suite, but the ZedBoard is supported by the free WebPACK edition of Vivado Design Suite.

Note: Xilinx software tools are not available for download in some countries. Prior to purchasing the ZedBoard, please check the supporting software's availability, as it is required for the board's use.

    Great device for beginners

    I'm sure this board can work perfectly for people with more advanced FPGA experience, however, I am a beginner and I can say that this is also a good beginner-friendly board. It has the standard buttons, switches, LEDs, as well as more advanced peripherals like HDMI. Overall I think this is a great board to learn about FPGAs especially if you plan on using the ARM cores for a hybrid software and hardware programmable design.

    Very good product but helping material has not come with this product. Some basic helping material should be given with this product.

    Go DIGITAL DESIGN!

    Well I am no stranger to using ZEDBOARD for SoC and digital design from my classes at California State University, Northridge. I have experience inside and outside the classroom setting. Upon receiving my device however I was a little shocked to see there was a defect on the heat sink of the SoC chip. Not too sure how common this is but definitely takes away from the aesthetic of the device. It seems to run fine however. Overall good product with minor mishaps.
